SAP delivers basic Warehouse Management System (WMS) – which WMS fits my requirements?

Recently, SAP released a message saying that there should now be basic warehouse management functions in S/4HANA. For this, the customer does not have to activate the SAP Extended Warehouse Management solution. The solution, which is very similar to the old SAP Warehouse Management, is called S/4HANA Stock Room Management and will be included in the S/4HANA Core. Apparently, SAP is taking a step towards the existing SAP Warehouse Management customers. Until recently, it was said that SAP Warehouse Management (SAP WM) needs to be replaced by SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) by 2025. S/4HANA Stock Room Management now provides basic functionalities and thus enables the continued use of SAP Warehouse Management (WM). As of Release S/4HANA 1909, Stock Room Management should be available and, at the same time, SAP WM will be supported until 2025.

Stock Room Management includes a similar but much streamlined functionality of the good old SAP WM. For example, Task & Resource Management (TRM), which customers need if they want to map a forklift control system with SAP, should be eliminated.

There will not be a decentralized version for the Stock Room Management. Here, customers should go to EWM, as long as they want to continue to map warehouse management using SAP software. S/4HANA Stock Room Management is not further developed by SAP. All innovations will be incorporated into SAP EWM.
